Surrey Youth Chorus

Biography

Biography
The SYC was created in 1998 as SCC singers grew and voices changed! This popular four-part chorus is devoted to music of all styles including classical, folk, jazz, Broadway & popular.
The dynamic and talented singers range in age from approximately 14-25 and include young women 17 years and up who are in grade eleven or higher and are outstanding musicians. Boys, by audition, will have changed voices. The SYC presents the annual CBC "Dickens" Fundraiser Concert (proceeds to the South Surrey/ White Rock Food Bank), and joins the SCC annually for the Christmas and Spring Orchestra concerts and the choreographed Season Finale Spectacular at Bell Center in May. The SYC were featured in the opera "Dido & Aeneas" in April 1999 with several of the singers in solo roles. They compete each year in the Kiwanis Festival and have one annual choir retreat, often to the Harrison Hot Springs Resort where they are famous for their late night serenading in the hot pools! The SYC likes to team up for concerts with other Youth Choirs as they did in the 02-03 Season with the Coastal Sound Youth Choir & the Langley Fine Arts Youth Choir. In May 2003 they joined the BCCF 'Chorfest' Weekend in Kamloops and had a blast!

This year, the SYC is thrilled to be touring to the UK for the 2009 Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod target="_new" in Wales.
